Good Governance

WHAT CHRISTOPHER WILL DO:

  • Host regular Town Hall meetings, giving residents a platform to voice their concerns

  • Pass campaign finance reform legislation so that those with special interests cannot use their wallets to choose candidates

  • Enact Participatory Budgeting, which allows members of the community to submit proposals and vote on how a portion of the budget for the District is allocated

  • Integrate technology so that there is greater transparency in the legislation, land use, and budgeting process in the City Council

WHAT CHRISTOPHER HAS DONE:

  • Run his campaign with complete transparency, providing the public with information about the sectors and neighborhoods his donations come from
  • Not accepted any money from special interests or developers
  • Responds to each email his campaign receives within 24 hours of it being sent, so that voters will know this is the accountability they can expect in office

Affordable Housing

WHAT CHRISTOPHER WILL DO:

  • Pass community-based zoning, like the Chinatown Working Group plan, that will enact policies to protect against tenant harassment, while discouraging over-development that prices out residents

  • Allocate a larger percentage of discretionary funds for residents of NYCHA to have better programming and safer, cleaner facilities

  • Be the point of contact for small businesses and residential tenants who are being harassed, helping them navigate the different protections that are already in place, while advocating for more accountability

WHAT CHRISTOPHER HAS DONE:

  • Testified and spoken at every community meeting to prevent the Two Bridges developments that will cause irreparable damage to the affordability of the Lower East Side
  • Fought for the rights of tenants by rallying with neighbors against landlord harassment throughout Lower Manhattan
  • Established the first Residential Green Committee in NYCHA's LES Infill I and II so that residents can take environmental action and educate their children about the importance of green space and resiliency

Education

WHAT CHRISTOPHER WILL DO:

  • Deliver on the promises made to the Village, Lower East Side, and Financial District to build more schools

  • Address the enrollment issues in Education Council District 1 to ensure the diversity in schools accurately reflects the neighborhoods they serve

  • Advocate for lower student-to-teacher ratios, so that our students are receiving the personalized time that they deserve

WHAT CHRISTOPHER HAS DONE:

  • Volunteered as a coach for all 3 basketball teams at MS131, one of the most underfunded schools in the City, when they would otherwise have had to cut their basketball program
  • Provided adult education services to previously incarcerated people, teaching financial literacy, how to create a business plan, and build confidence in the professional world
  • Attended CECD1 schools and local afterschool programs so he understands the true value of a public school education and its shortcomings

Land Use and Preservation

WHAT CHRISTOPHER WILL DO:

  • Fully implement the Chinatown Working Group plan, placing height limits and protective zoning that will preserve the affordability for residents and small businesses

  • Protect current community-based zoning, acting as a forceful defender for the Special Little Italy District and the Artists in Residence zoning law in SoHo and NoHo

  • Increase the livability of Lower Manhattan by preserving open space, small businesses, and quality of life through pro-active legislation and community initatives

WHAT CHRISTOPHER HAS DONE:

  • Organized rallies to promote and protect community-based zoning in Chinatown, Lower East Side, and SoHo
  • Educated residents about the zoning laws that affect the affordability of their communities
  • Testified at City Planning hearings, stood with his neighbors at Community Board meetings and City Hall hearings to advocate for the zoning needed to prevent the over-development of Lower Manhattan

Quality of Life

WHAT CHRISTOPHER WILL DO:

  • Defend community gardens, advocate for more parks, and work to preserve the precious open space that remains in Lower Manhattan so that our children have clean areas to play, and our seniors have healthy spaces to relax.

  • Strengthen and prepare Lower Manhattan for the next superstorm through establishing collaborative task forces, and working with local Community Boards and activists

  • Divert and disperse traffic to alternate routes to reduce the high asthma rates, while protecting pedestrians from crowded streets and residents from disruptive noise

WHAT CHRISTOPHER HAS DONE:

  • Co-founded 2 community gardens in NYCHA residencies, while creating the first residential green committee in Lower Manhattan
  • Rallied and organized with residents to save Elizabeth Street Garden where he has been an active volunteer for years
  • Advocated for a plan to provide up to 5 times as much senior housing while providing open space in Little Italy
  • Working alongside neighbors in SoHo to prevent illegal big box retail from destroying the quality of life for the historic mix-use neighborhood

Jobs & Small Businesses

WHAT CHRISTOPHER WILL DO:

  • Pass the Small Business Jobs Survival Act, giving small business owners an equal voice in the lease re-negotiation process and preventing more vacant storefronts

  • Fight for 15, allowing New Yorkers to afford to live as prices continue to climb and residents are consistently priced out of their homes

  • Engage with small business owners so they know they have a voice in the City Council, even if their owners are not voters in District

WHAT CHRISTOPHER HAS DONE:

  • Helped previously incarcerated individuals start their own thriving small businesses through serving as a member of the Young Professionals board at Defy Ventures
  • Organized with small business owners to prevent more big box retail from illegally occupying 10,000 sq ft + spaces
  • Stacked cans in his father's bodega as a child, learning the sense of community small businesses foster
